ACTION PLAN
đź’ˇ HOW WE DRIVE LOCAL FOOT TRAFFIC

In today’s competitive local business landscape, geo-targeting has become a powerful tool for reaching the right customers at the right time. But how do you leverage geo-targeting to actually drive sales and foot traffic? Let me take you through a campaign we recently ran that did just that—and more.
Our Goal: Drive Foot Traffic to Liquor Stores with Pull-Through Marketing
We started with a simple goal: get more people to walk into liquor stores that carried our product. This was a pull-through marketing campaign, meaning we weren’t just running ads to increase brand awareness—we wanted to drive real, in-store action. We focused on using Facebook Ads with geo-targeting to drive customers to the store locator, ultimately guiding them to the nearest retailer selling our product.
Targeting Local Customers: A Zip Code Focus
To make sure we were targeting the right people, we decided to run the campaign with a very specific focus on a single zip code within a 10-mile radius of the stores. We knew that being hyper-local would give us the best chance to drive customers into the stores—so we set our sights on an area that had the highest concentration of our target demographic.
We kept the targeting broad, focusing on people 21+, but our product is geared more toward women, so we adjusted our ad creatives to resonate more with that audience.
The Creative Strategy: Dynamic Testing for the Best Performance
We didn’t just stick with one ad copy or creative. Instead, we used dynamic creative testing, which allowed us to test different combinations of:
3 versions of ad copy
3 different headlines
5 video ads

This helped us identify which combination of messaging and visuals would resonate the most with our target audience. Since we were focused on generating local awareness and foot traffic, we ensured that the content was specific to the location and appealed to the local community.

Campaign Results: Here’s What Happened
Now, let’s talk about the results. After running the campaign with a total spend of $1,700, here’s what we saw:
Reach: 94,000 people
Frequency: 1.73 (Meaning, each person saw the ad nearly twice)
Impressions: 162,000
CPM (Cost per 1,000 Impressions): $10
CPC (Cost per Click): $0.41
CTR (Click-Through Rate): 4.19% (Which is solid!)
Visitors to the Store Locator: 4,000 people visited our store locator page
Key Successes: More Than Just Foot Traffic
This is where it gets really exciting. While the main goal was to drive people into stores, we ended up seeing some amazing, indirect results from the campaign that exceeded our expectations:
Goal #1: Drive People Into Stores—Success!
The primary goal of the campaign was to drive foot traffic to stores, and we succeeded. The 4,000 visitors to the store locator page directly translated into more people walking through the doors.
Creating Buzz and Generating Inbound Calls
The campaign didn’t just drive traffic to the stores—it also created a buzz. We received a lot of inbound calls from other liquor stores wanting to get our product on their shelves. This was an unexpected but welcome result!
Generating 500+ Leads
By sending 4,000 people to our store locator page, we also saw 500+ leads generated through a pop-up on the site. These were potential customers looking for more information or ready to make a purchase—beyond just the foot traffic.

Increasing Online Sales
As a bonus, the traffic we drove to the store locator didn’t just convert into in-store visits; we also saw an increase in online purchases from the people who visited our site. That’s a win-win!
What We Learned: Geo-Targeting Works—Even Beyond Foot Traffic
This campaign was designed to get people into the stores, and it absolutely worked. But the results didn’t stop there. The indirect impact of this campaign—creating buzz, generating calls, and increasing online sales—showed us just how powerful geo-targeting can be.
By focusing on a small, specific geographic area and using Facebook Ads to target the right people, we were able to not only drive foot traffic but also create long-term opportunities like store placements and online sales.
Key Takeaways for Local Businesses:
Geo-targeting is powerful: Even with a small budget, you can target your exact audience with precision and drive real, measurable results.
Dynamic creative testing is worth it: Test different variations to see what resonates best with your audience.
Don’t underestimate the indirect benefits: A well-targeted campaign can create buzz, generate leads, and even boost online sales.
Know your local market: The more you can hone in on a specific location, the better your results will be.
